Thank you to everybody who participated in the 2017 campaign. The campaign ran between 1 July-31 August and received an incredible 849 customer pledges with over 2500 participants in beach cleans all around the world resulting in approximately 4,600kg of waste collected across 17 countries worldwide.
Customers and travel industry together made a fantastic effort combined to make holidays greener in 2017, here are some examples:
- Barrhead Travel committed to a plastic free day in their office, Midcounties Cooperative encouraged their customers to make a pledge to receive extra loyalty points and Travel Professional used social media to talk about sustainability.
- TUI Group completed 49 beach cleans by the end of September having already collected 1,700kg of waste throughout July and August.
- Thomas Cook Mexico organised a turtle conservation project and other ABTA Members have been actively promoting the 15 pledges using the hashtag #MHG17 on social media
Several hotels expanded their MHG activities, such as the Royal Blue Resort Crete which organised a photo competition of local biodiversity, tree planting as well as organise a local market selling local produce as just some examples.
There were 44 Travelife hotels that organised at least one or more clean ups throughout the campaign.
