Noble Caledonia customers took part in a clean-up as part of their expedition aboard MS Hebridean Sky. Svalbard is a remote Artic wilderness with glaciers, fjords and abundant wildlife. It is home to polar bears, walrus, seals and whales. However, Svalbard is also having to deal with large amounts of litter, predominantly washed ashore from fishing. Both the authorities and the local community are involved in clean-ups, but now tourists are supporting these efforts too.
Items removed from the beach clean were brought back to MS Hebridean Sky at anchor in the bay. The items were then sorted into categories and landed into appropriate disposal facilities ashore where they were recycled or disposed of appropriately.
