Now that you've made a difference... make it last!
Make sure that you send your beach clean forms to the Ocean Conservancy, the e-mail and postal address is at the bottom of the form. By doing this you are helping the Ocean Conservancy to monitor beach and marine litter all around the world and helping to find ways to reduce its impact.
Keep a list of contacts for the beach clean so that you can arrange future beach cleans with volunteers, supporters, community groups, local businesses or charities.
Work with your list of contacts to plan how you can keep the beach cleaner all year round – bring tourists and local businesses together to use and celebrate the beach.
Create beach activities for your customers, for example a beach treasure hunt; a sand sculpture or beach art competition; or a guided walk based on what's special about your beach, whether it's the longest beach in the area, is home to interesting wildlife, or has myths and legends associated with it.
Branding the event(s) will help to generate publicity through using social media - could you use branded caps and clothing to create a greater presence on the beach? Marketing materials can be used repeatedly over the coming months and years.
The Travel Foundation undertook a project In Cyprus to demonstrate what a best practice 'green beach' would look like.
