Travelife GOLD certified Reethi Beach Resort in the Baa Atoll, Maldives
Reethi Beach has been putting environmental issues at the top of their agenda for the past ten years. The resort makes the most of nature’s gifts to maximise energy efficiency and renewability with the use of infrastructure such as heat exchangers, solar panels, a reverse osmosis plant and maximum use of natural lighting as a favourable alternative to the low energy consumption lighting available there.
Reethi Beach has established close relationships with neighbouring islands in their endeavours to help to introduce comprehensive programmes which encourage the commitment to sustainability which the local area depends upon. Considerable improvements have been made in energy, water and waste management as a result of this. For example:
• The use of re-usable glass bottles has reduced the use of disposable plastic bottles by over 400 per day since 2010
• Plastic straws have not been used since 2010
• Plastic bags have not been used since 2008
Each year Reethi Beach Resort celebrates World Nature Conservation day and International Volunteers Day along with their guests. This helps to reflect on the importance that they give to the environment and helps them to remind their guests through celebration and appreciation.
